Hymns of the Rig Veda (2 Vols.)
Translated by Ralph T. H. Griffith, 1,468 pages, Hardcover, 2 Vols.
The Rgveda or the Veda of Praise is the oldest extant literary work in the world. The Hindus have always revered it as the fountain of divine wisdom. All schools of Hindu philosophy claim inspiration from it.
The Rgveda contains 1017 hymns (or 1028 according to Valakhilyas) arranged in ten mandalas or books. Most scholars agree that many of the hymns touch sublime heights of poetry. The present translation of the Rgveda is considered as one of the most authentic renderings of the Vedic text in fine metrical English with explanatory notes and useful indices.
